What you as a Temp Worker need to do

  • Check you have enough information to work safely before you start
  • Follow site rules
  • Ask for training
  • Get involved in health and safety
  • Wear and use safety gear properly
  •  Keep your recruitment agency informed

Getting to work

For public transport information, call Transport Information on 366 6400 or visit www.maxx.co.nz.  You can obtain specific directions from Indus on how to get to each assignment.

Punctuality & Illness

If you are ill or unable to make it to an assignment, please notify your consultant at the earliest possible time – remember our office is open 7.30am – 5.30pm and we have a voicemail facility; if you are lost or running late, take a moment to call Indus.

As punctuality and reliability are essential parts of our service standards, please ensure that you start work at the correct time for each assignment.

Please ensure you are punctual and reliable on all Indus jobs.  Your attendance will influence our ability to find you more work.

Following Site Rules

When you arrive, always report to the actual person your Consultant instructed you to contact.

You must follow all the rules and procedures of the site, especially those relating to hazards and how to manage them.  You must always use equipment in a safe way, and avoid getting involved in anything silly or dangerous.

Ask for training if required

Once you arrive on site, your supervisor has a responsibility to make sure you stay safe.  It’s your job to ensure your supervisor hasn’t missed anything out.

If you’re not totally sure of what to do, it’s your job to ask for more instruction.

General Conditions

Whilst on assignment, if you find yourself with spare time please ask your supervisor what you should be doing next, or offer to assist others.

Ask your supervisor when it is convenient to take a lunch break and for how long.

Except in the case of an emergency, personal phone calls are only to be made during breaks.  Leave mobile phones off and diverted to your voicemail during working hours.

Be aware that the majority of work places strictly enforce a non-smoking policy.

Work place Stress & Fatigue

As a temporary employee or contractor of Indus Recruitment you must report immediately to an Indus Recruitment Consultant if you believe you are unable in anyway, to cope with the tasks or demands of the job you are carrying out for our employer.

Your right to refuse

As a temp worker, you have the same right as any worker to refuse an assignment or task if it will put your health and safety at risk.  You should exercise this right if you feel you can’t keep yourself or others safe on site.

3 Steps Out of a Difficult Situation

If you feel your safety is at risk, there’s a “3 step rule” you should follow:

1   Talk to your site supervisor.

2   If you’re still not happy, talk to your Consultant

3   Continue doing other safe work until the issue is sorted out, never just walk off the job.

“You have the same right as any worker to refuse an assignment or task if it puts your safety at risk.”

 Pay Details & Timesheets

Your hours of work must be recorded on an Indus Recruitment timesheet.  It is your responsibility to ensure your supervisor has a record of your hours.  You must give your hours to your supervisor by Friday afternoons.

Wages are paid into your bank account by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) each Tuesday, and will be available to draw on Wednesday morning.

A pay slip detailing your pay, allowances, tax deductions, rate of pay and net wage will be sent to your home address.

Ensure Indus have both your bank account and IRD numbers.  If you have not provided this information at the time of registering, it is your responsibility to provide this information to us.

Keep Indus Informed

  • To update your availability for work.
  • If you are sick and cannot attend an assignment.
  • When there is an emergency, which means you can’t start or complete an assignment.
  • When you are going to be late for an assignment.
  • If you experience any difficulty with an assignment.
  • Call us immediately if you know the date your assignment ends.
  • If you have an accident or identify a hazard while you are on an assignment.
  • When you have not been provided with safe operating instructions for equipment you are required to use.
  • If the client asks you to extend your assignment, even if you can/cannot personally continue the assignment.
  • If the job is different from the way it was explained, you are asked to do a different job or asked to move to a different area.
  • If you feel the work environment is unsafe.
  • When you are not familiar or have not been adequately trained or inducted in the use of any plant/equipment/machinery/work process.
  • If your personal details change, i.e.: address, phone number, bank account, etc.
  • If you are on assignment other than with Indus Recruitment, let us know the completion date so that we can work towards having a future assignment available for you.
