Industry trends, what is happening in the employment market?

Times have been tough for all, as the economic climate worsens it has impacted all. Fiscal gain and the government’s austerity policies have applied pressure to all sectors, this has facilitated difficult times. With Jobs down in the public sector as well as construction projects being slashed this has started a trend of unemployment. This has created a vacuum where more multi-variant skilled and experienced workers are being searched for within the employment market.

Jobs filled between the age groups of 15-29 are down by nearly 40,000 roles. Most of this decrease in jobs relates to 15–19-year-olds (17,604 or 13%). However, we can see that in the year groups of 35+, 20,000 more jobs were filled, and the percentage was higher. This displays the increased demand for experienced, skilled people as businesses do not have the economic freedom to devote funds to less skilled employment. What is happening with the economy?

Due to the economic hardship, we are experiencing many small businesses are feeling the brunt. Heading toward recession leaves the smaller businesses unable to compete creating fewer hours of work and staff redundancies However bigger players can fare better and absorb some of the market space whereby small businesses are left behind.  To combat this the reserve bank will look to slash interest rates to provide relief. Meanwhile, industries that are steadily in business such as supermarkets, banks, and water/power providers are seemingly untouched.
